So I know, I’m the Disneyland Diehard but I recently had the opportunity to go to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom for a day…one day. I bought my ticket, linked my brand new 2015 limited edition Mickey Mouse Magic Band, got some FastPass+ tickets on my Magic Band and showed up for what I’m used to calling rope drop. At the Walt Disney World, it’s called the Magic Kingdom Welcome Show. An announcer, some dancers, characters like Chip ‘N Dale, Snow White, Anna and Elsa and Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and one lucky family put on a show at the Main Street Train Station to open the park. After that, the park is open.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting to this page pictures and my experiences during my one day at the Magic Kingdom. I’ll talk about how it stacks up (in my opinion) to the original Disneyland. The one thing I will say now is that this initial view of the Cinderella Castle is amazing. It’s not just that it is bigger (it is), but the use of forced perspective on this view is much more effective at the Magic Kingdom than it is at Disneyland. the first buildings along Main Street are taller than they are at Disneyland and the last buildings seem to be shorter. This makes the view much more dramatic. Never mind the fact that Sleeping Beauty Castle is a mere 77 feet tall and Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom is 189.
Thanks for following and check back for new posts about my trip.
